A Legacy of Dedication: Celebrating Rick Cope’s Retirement from VASEY

After nearly five decades of unwavering dedication and service, Rick Cope retired from VASEY Commercial Facility Solutions recently, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to work alongside him. To honor the moment, VASEY held a dinner in Rick’s honor and gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rick’s journey with VASEY began in a time when the company was just a small, tight-knit team. Over the years, he witnessed and contributed to its growth into a thriving organization, becoming an integral part of its success story. His love for his work, the folks around him, and the company’s mission fueled his long and fruitful career. Rick wasn’t just an employee; he was a cornerstone of the company, someone who treated VASEY like his own child, nurturing it with care, dedication, and an unyielding spirit.

Rick’s impact went far beyond the technical skills he brought to the table. He was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to many. His ability to navigate challenges, despite considering himself “not book smart,” showcased his common sense, hard work, and the deep faith that guided him every day. The bonds he formed, particularly with mentors like Bill Vasey and his brothers Bill and Chuck Cope, were central to his journey. These relationships not only shaped his career but also the culture of VASEY itself.

As Rick steps into retirement, he’s excited about the new chapter ahead. He’s looking forward to spending more time on activities he loves but never had enough time for. Yardwork and woodworking will keep his hands busy, while fixing up things around the house will ensure that his problem-solving skills stay sharp. Rick’s friendly nature means he’ll enjoy visiting with neighbors, and of course, there’s Debbie, his wife, who he’ll continue to give a hard time, just as he always has.

But retirement isn’t just about staying at home. Rick has some exciting trips lined up on his bucket list. He plans to attend some Christian concerts, including a special trip on a K-Love cruise to the Bahamas, which promises to be both relaxing and spiritually enriching.

What Rick will miss most about his working life is the camaraderie—the crew he worked with, the people he helped, and the joy of figuring things out together. Giving PJ (our Human Resources Guru), a hard time and sharing laughs with the folks at VASEY were highlights of his day. But as Rick looks forward, he’s inspired by his unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus and those who stand strong in their beliefs, no matter the trials they face.

Rick’s career at VASEY was marked by a series of milestones that he can look back on with pride. From helping the company grow from a small team to a robust organization to serving more clients with better-qualified crews, Rick’s contributions were vital. His journey from being a slow learner to achieving success without a college degree is a testament to his determination and the power of faith. He hopes to leave behind a legacy of hard work, trust in Christ, and a deep connection to the company and its people—a legacy that will remain a part of VASEY long after he has stepped away.

As Rick embarks on this new chapter, his advice to the next generation at VASEY is simple yet profound: be honest, work hard, and remember that VASEY is more than just a job—it’s a career, a family, and a place where dedication and faith can lead to great things.

Rick Cope’s retirement marks the end of an era at VASEY Commercial Facility Solutions, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide the company for years to come. Here’s to a well-deserved retirement filled with joy, relaxation, and the simple pleasures of life that Rick has earned many times over.
